'OT, Not OTT: How To Secure Your Operational Technology Without Crippling Your Business'

The best way of ensuring your systems are cyber-secure, the jocular cynics occasionally remind us, is to never connect them to the internet. When people trot this old line out they’re usually making a valid point about usability versus security – yet airgapping remains a highly effective measure. But what happens when the business needs to network some systems that have, maybe for decades, never been connected?

The operational technology (OT) security space is an increasingly challenging environment. Across the manufacturing, retail, energy and utilities sectors in particular there are a plethora of devices and local systems that have never had to interface with the rest of the business. But to increase efficiency and raise both profit and share price, that is no longer an option. So companies are having to come to terms with a problem they’ve put off facing for years.

What can you do to minimise disruption to the business when you start to think about securing your OT systems? What do you need to have done and thought about before you even begin to touch legacy systems that the business relies on for its output? And what new ways of working will you have to adopt to maximise the efficiency and productivity gains you’ll achieve by transforming your infrastructure while, at the same time, ensuring you aren’t going to be running unacceptable additional risks?

Join a high-level group of your cybersecurity peers, and our hosts from Fortinet and NTT Data, for a roundtable discussion on one of the trickiest yet most urgent cybersecurity challenges of the moment.
